Treatments to deal with lines on the forehead are one of the most popular treatments requested by patients. A non-surgical treatment using botulinum toxin has become a popular cosmetic procedure, because it offers a much subtler and less invasive alternative to traditional surgical methods – and it’s simple and economical to do. As the injections take so little time when conducted by a clinical professional, you can be in and out in a lunch hour and back to your day.

Botulinum is also used in many ways for aesthetic treatments, so it is exceptionally safe: it’s well tolerated by patients, there is a huge body of evidence for us professionals to work from, and because we conduct so many procedures, aesthetic clinicians are highly experienced.

Better still, while it’s used for an increasing number of muscle sculpting applications, the forehead is where Botulinum has been most used. So it really is an everyday way to reduce wrinkles and signs of ageing. Here’s an in-depth look at how it’s done.

Botulinum toxin is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. As clinical professionals, we are authorised to use carefully calibrated amounts of Botulinum to target specific muscles in the face for precise aesthetic outcomes.

When injected into the muscles, Botox blocks the nerve signals that tell the muscles to contract. This relaxes the muscles and smooths out the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. And because we can target individual muscles, we can create specific results on the face, with great precision.

Effects typically last 3-6 months. This will vary depending on factors like your age, metabolism, and the injection site. We will be able to give you more insight from experience at your consultation.

This is where Dr. Hanson comes in. We will always be honest in our consultations. We will give you the best advice, so that you can make an informed decision before you take on any treatment – including fully assessing other options.

The forehead is obviously a prominent facial feature (and we wouldn’t be talking about it if it wasn’t an issue for you!) So it is crucial that you don’t feel pressured, and that you have a full understanding of all treatment options. Take your time – we’ll be ready when you are.

THE PROCEDURE

The first step is a thorough consultation with one of our highly trained and certified practitioners. We’ll discuss the outcomes you want to achieve; and your practitioner will be able to confirm that Botulinum is an appropriate course of action. We’ll assess your anatomy and skin, answer any potential concerns, review other options which may be appropriate and ultimately fix the injection points which we feel will give you the optimal outcomes.

We will surgically clean your forehead area. In some cases we will also apply a topical anaesthetic. Many patients do not require this, as we use exceptionally fine needles – this means that Botulinum injections are generally well-tolerated. If you are worried about discomfort (or indeed injections in general), your practitioner will be delighted to put your mind at ease.

Using a fine needle, your practitioner will inject small and carefully calibrated amounts of Botulinum Toxin Type A into a defined set of muscles on your forehead. As always, we minimise treatment in every respect: we’ll only use what we need to optimise the effect and to reduce discomfort and complexity.

A Botulinum procedure typically takes just 10-20 minutes.

POST-TREATMENT

After treatment, you can usually continue with your day immediately.

The dose may be low, but Botulinum is still a toxin. To prevent the toxin from spreading to adjacent muscles, we recommend that you don’t rub or massage the treated area for at least 2 hours. This is the only protective advice that most patients need.

Within 3-7 days post-treatment, most patients notice a significant softening of their forehead lines. These results typically last between 3-4 months, after which the muscle action gradually returns.

when administered by a trained professional like the team at the Dr. Hanson Clinic, Botulinum treatments are considered exceptionally safe. Typical side effects are generally mild and temporary; these include redness, bruising, or swelling at the injection site. More serious side effects are rare but can include a drooping of the eyelids, headache, or flu-like symptoms. The science tells us that none of these are permanent, and all in all it is hard to find a more trusted aesthetic treatment.
